Chairman Jerry Simpson was elected to office in November 2010. He was elected chairman on December 6, 2010. He graduated from Parkwood High School in 1972 where he played football and track and served as student body president his senior year. He completed his bachelor of science degree in Animal Science in 1972 and immediately married Sheila Miller of Waxhaw.
After a one year stint as a teacher in the Union County school system, he returned to NC State University to serve on the faculty as an extension specialist, where he was responsible for the performance evaluation of swine at the Central Crops Research Station in Clayton, NC. He continued with Extension as a cross-county livestock agent in Cabarrus County and then transferred to Union County in 1981. In 1998 he was named County Extension Director for the Union County Center and was responsible for administering educational programs in Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community Resource Development, and 4-H Youth Development.
Chairman Simpson and and his wife are the proud parents of three sons, Joshua and Justin 30, and Jordan 28. They also have one granddaughter, Faith Addison McCall.
Simpson has been active in his professional life, as a gentleman farmer, and in his community and church.
