About Adoption Services:

Union County DSS participates in several ways in the building of families through adoption. We recruit, study and select homes for children who are cleared for adoption who have been in the foster care system somewhere in the state of North Carolina. The majority of the children available are minority children, have special mental or emotional needs, are older children or may be in sibling groups.   The agency is always looking for good stable families who will make room in their hearts and homes for these special children.

When children have been released for adoption or their parent’s rights have been terminated, they are prepared for placement in a permanent home. These children need help to be able to emotionally integrate themselves into a new family so that they can have the best chance to live a safe, happy and stable life.

Assessments and reports are prepared and submitted to the Court for Stepparent/Relative or Independent Adoptions. There is a fee charged for this service which is on a sliding scale and based on family income. These reports are required by the Clerk of Court’s office before an adoption can be finalized.
