About Homeland Security:

The Union County department of Homeland Security is responsible for:

  • Directing and coordinating responses for disasters, emergencies and threat assessment of terrorism, including bioterrorism.
  • Managing Union County Emergency Management, Fire Marshal's Office and Emergency Communications.
  • Building coalitions with local law enforcement, fire departments, government entities and appropriate public or private organizations necessary to develop, implement and respond to security and emergency concerns.
  • Developing and managing state and federal grant funding for emergency management, homeland security and bioterrorism programs.

PARTNERSHIPS:  The department is engaged in partnerships with a host of other Municipal and County agencies; other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies; the business community; and most importantly, with the residents of Union County.

PREVENTION:   Residents help in the area of prevention by being involved in their community and by notifying police of suspicious activity.

PREPAREDNESS: The departments and their partners have developed a number of plans to deal with a variety of potential terror-related events. There are evacuation and mass communication plans. The department has a command center that can be quickly staffed and an emergency plan that can be put into effect.
